GLA's Energy Project 2015
Energy generated by fossil-fuels is a big source of world’s greenhouse gas emissions, climate change and global warming. It is really important for students and all segments of society to know the dangers caused by the fossil fuels on our environment and our capability to reduce dangerous greenhouse emissions by increasing renewable energy generation and green power purchasing. In wake of the rising greenhouse emissions in the world and alarming energy crisis in Pakistan Green Living Association arranged 'Energy Project' for the schools’ students which offered study from the Guidebooks, participation in the Quiz and free participation in the practical energy project arranged during the schools’ summer camps.
Thousands of students across Pakistan joined the project in getting useful theoretical and practical education and enjoying lucrative prizes distributed by Green Living Association. The project proved really successful in motivating people to use renewable energy to support a sustainable future.
Background Information
The nations around the globe have realized the key for achieving and sustaining sovereignty is having self reliance in access to use of energy. To efficiently address the ongoing energy crisis in Pakistan, we need to revolutionize our energy system from fossil-fuels to renewable energy in an energy proficient manner. Though numerous Independent Power Plants (IPPs) are contributing significantly in Energy Generation (EG) in Pakistan but still about 38 % of Pakistan’s population is without an access to electricity. One of the most viable solutions to the energy crisis in Pakistan is thereby to utilize the suitable renewable energy sources according to our climate and socio-economic conditions. In contrast to fossil fuels, renewable sources of energy produce little or no pollution or hazardous waste and pose few risks to public safety. Furthermore, they are entirely domestic resources.
Under its Vision 2020, Green Living Association is dedicated to approach all societal segments with basic Environmental Education by the Year 2020. The Energy Project 2015 is designed to help introduce students and their families to renewable energy options and how those could be availed in this phase of energy crisis in Pakistan. Our objectives is to help the students and their families distinguish between renewable and nonrenewable energy sources, to identify a wide variety of applications for renewable energy and to share the significant advantages of using renewable energy in Pakistan.
Energy Quiz
'Energy Quiz 2015' was a highly valued and timely activity in helping bringing Pakistan out of the ongoing energy crisis and in protecting the planet from Global Warming. According to the latest researches, the burning of fossil fuels is responsible for over 50 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. These gases insulate the planet, and could lead to potentially catastrophic changes in the earth’s climate and leading to global warming.
Green Living Association is committed in developing a responsible and Environment Friendly nation and in bringing useful Environmental Education to each Pakistani. In determined association of our Green Partner schools we are successfully heading to achieve our planned objectives.
No doubt, our responsible and collective approach could bring our homeland out of the energy crisis and could save our planet from the serious impacts of greenhouse gases and other pollutants caused by the fossil fuels.
Energy Quiz 2015' was part of GLA’s comprehensive ‘Energy Project’ focused on bringing the best energy choices in the lives of our fellow countrymen.
Students from grades preschool to 12 joined the ‘Energy Quiz’ through their campus administration.
As a research based strategy to extend Environmental Education from kids to the elders, a Green Angel was encouraged to make 4 supporters (among the family members & relatives), bring the Quiz Sheet to his/ her home for few days and to attempt the Quiz in association of her/ his supporters, with the help from the guidebooks available on the websites of Green Living Association. In keeping the students' groups intact for their gradual learning the Quiz was facilitated in 3 categories of students according to their educational grades:
Category 1 (Grade preschool to 3), Category 2 (Grade 4 to 7) & Category 3 (Grade 8 to 12)
GLA announced colourful and lucrative Prizes and Rewards for the participants of the quiz in making it more inspiring for the students to join. Besides Abroad Study Trip/ Rs. 100,000 Cash Prize, Laptops, LED Monitors and Honour Shields, GLA awarded a High Quality Recognition Certificate to each participant of the Quiz.
